General Information
Where is it? Between Shaw Drive and Sunny Hills Drive, behind the Red Hill Shopping Center, near the Hub in San Anselmo, California.
What is it? The property that will become the Red Hill Community Park is owned by the Tampalpais Union High School District (TUHSD). The area—approximately 5 acres-- currently has 2 tennis courts and is utilized by local dogs and their companions as an unofficial dog park.
What's the plan? The approved park design (approved in March 2006) includes an all weather soccer/ lacrosse field; a baseball diamond with backstop and dugouts; a large dog exercise area; a walking track; shaded picnic areas; and plenty of parking. This park plan was developed with a great deal of public input over the past eighteen months and with representatives from many constituencies.
Who is involved? The Red Hill Community Park Joint Powers Authority (JPA)—comprised of the Town of San Anselmo and the Tamalpais Union High School District--- has signed a 20-year lease agreement with RVSD to design, develop and maintain a community park on the Red Hill site.
Why do we need it? There is a serious lack of athletic playing fields in the Ross Valley for athletes of all ages. Soccer and lacrosse are the fastest growing sports among children. Drake High School has no soccer or lacrosse field on its campus. Currently, the only public park in the Ross Valley with athletic playing fields is Memorial Park in San Anselmo. It does not include a regulation-sized soccer field nor a baseball field to accommodate older players over 12 years of age. The fields that do exist at Memorial Park are severely over-utilized by the community.
How will it be funded? The Red Hill Community Park project will be funded entirely by Bond monies, foundation grants, corporate grants, in-kind services and private donations and contributions. No general fund tax monies will be utilized in constructing the new community park.
Who will pay for the maintenance of the park? The Tamalpais Union High School District has committed to maintain the Park allowing decisions on use to be made without having to factor in the need to generate enough revenue to cover the cost of Park maintenance.
How much has been raised so far? As of summer of 2008, we have total donations, institutional and bond monies, commitments of in-kind services and pledges of over $2 million towards the park project. This is sufficient to complete the first phase of the Park and is about $500,000 short of the total money needed to complete both Phase I and Phase II. Both the Tam District and the Town of San Anselmo have pledged Modernization and State Park Bond monies to the project. The Town of San Anselmo has pledged staff and administrative support. The Marin Community Foundation has pledged its support in terms of grant funds. Contributions from other engaged organizations and individuals are continuing.
How can I help? Park facilities that benefit our community can only be realized through the support and cooperation of all community members.

We are most of the way to realizing our dream of a new community park in the Ross Valley. However, we need your help! Please join us by taking this opportunity to make a gift that will pay dividends for many years to come.
